NEW YORK —February 7, 2006 — Broadway Gallery (473 Broadway, 7th Floor, New York NY 10013) is proud to present "Continue to Descend" a group show curated by Basak Malone. The exhibit runs from February 17th to 28th, 2006, featuring works of eleven contemporary artists from four different countries.
The participating artists include Jeff Koons, Andres Serrano, Gencay Kasapci, Lucy Delange, Victor Hugo, Umberto Torricelli, Dylan Farrell, Kai Lintumaa, Bata Musicki and Duriye Yuksel. Curator Malone brings together nine painters and three photographers to explore the theme of "descending" in their own eyes. The fall continues with the holiest of meditations as in Milton’s Paradise Lost.
Malone explains: "The artist’s interpretation of Continue to Descend is sometimes sharp, sometimes gentle, of our own humanity and no less urgent for the uncertainty. In Kierkegard’s words, ‘Most people live dejected in worldly joys or sorrows. They sit on the sidelines and do not join in the dance. The knights of infinity are dancers and possess elevation. They rise up and fall down again. And this is no mean feat, nor unpleasant to behold.’ For us, the fall can be devastating and harsh and yet it continues."
